Sometimes life feels overwhelming. Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “there is no way I can do ________? I usually look at a situation and immediately think about all the obstacles that are in the way. I guess that makes me a glass half empty kind of person. I have been in school now for what seems an eternity. About a year ago I hit the wall. I was toast. I got really discouraged with how much I still had to do in order to get to the good stuff and do what I wanted with my education. I sulked and pouted and stressed and tried to find a short cut and I even contemplated quitting and getting a job as a greeter at WalMart. So as I was throwing my temper tantrum with God, He let me in on a secret. It’s not about the destination it’s about the process. What did that mean? Well…it means that part of what God has for us is the journey itself regardless of the final destination. I felt stuck as if someone buried me up to my neck in sand. Then I had a thought…ANTS! Have you ever seen an Ant Farm? When you start an ant farm there is nothing but a solid block of sand. You pour the ants in and they begin to tunnel to create their home Ants don’t complete their tunnels in an hour, a day, a week or a month. They don’t tunnel by hiring a backhoe and a trencher to get it done in 15 minutes. They don’t throw in a stick of dynamite and yell, “fire in the hole”. No…in all their infinite ant wisdom they tunnel by moving one grain of sand at a time. It’s not fast but it’s all they’ve got. So I decided to tackle the obstacles in my life like grains of sand, one at a time until I arrive at the end of my tunnel. After moving many grains of sand I am much closer to the end of my educational journey and look forward to the next tunnel I dig trusting that the Lord will guide me in my journey one grain at a time.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
As I write this, a single ant crawled across my keyboard…nice reminder God!
