A Bully On The Block (Repost)

It’s been one of those weeks that seemed like a month. I’ve encountered spiritual battle that left me exhausted and wanting to curl up in bed and hide. Nothing was off limits in this attack on my soul.

This week I became sport for the enemy and he taunted me like a bully on the playground.

In the movie A Christmas Story, the neighborhood bully Scut Farkus had his way with the kids he deemed weak or inferior. He made it his personal mission to instill fear and dread into the hearts of the neighborhood kids and seemed to take great pleasure in doing so.

This week I had an encounter with my own Scut Farkus.

This bully of my soul taunted me all week. He followed me everywhere I went, lying in wait for any opportunity to trip me up and kick me while I was down. He was relentless and determined.

He spewed his venomous jeers at me while his band of followers egged him on.

They taunted me with:
You are not good enough.
You’re ugly and fat…. yeah, good one, you’re fat.
You’re never going to be a good therapist, remember how you yelled at your own daughter.
You can’t write, and nobody reads it anyway, so why bother.
You should just give up…you are small and powerless.
You are a fraud, you should know more about the Bible.

As the bully and his gang took turns taunting me and pushing me back and forth in this circle of lies, I recognized I have a choice. I could succumb to the lies and the torture and believe what they said is true, OR I could cry out to the Lord God Almighty, who is my protector, redeemer and King.

I admit I stayed in this circle far too long. You see friends; the enemy has a way of presenting lies that sound like truth. Especially when they bring us back to a place of wounded ness from our past.

When I was young, the messages I received about myself and my worth was mostly negative. The more I heard those lies, the more familiar they became and I embraced them as being true. You see Satan uses our past against us; he speaks in accusation and bullies us with guilt and fear.

We are children of the King. God has already rescued and redeemed us. Therefore we do not need to buy into the lies.

The next time the enemy swarms around you and begins to assault you with lies and accusations, remind him of who you are and whose you are.

I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child Ephesians 1:3-8
I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins Colossians 1:13-14
I am complete in Christ ~ Colossians 2:9-10
I am free from condemnation ~ Romans 8:1-2
I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances ~ Romans 8:28
I am free from any condemnation brought against me, and I cannot be separated from the love of God ~ Romans 8:31-39
I am hidden with Christ in God ~ Colossians 3:1-4
I am a citizen of Heaven ~ Philippians 3:20
I am born of God, and the evil one cannot touch me ~ 1 John 5:18

Have you been bullied this week by the lies of the enemy? What did you do to address the lies and break free from his grip?

Yeah, I like this one Karen. My son has experienced much bullying in middle school. I will print this for him so he can remember the truth that God’s word brings us.
